Plaster bust of unknown gentleman

A plaster bust from Abbotsford house, Melrose. This plaster bust had been in the collection of Sir Walter Scott and had been subjected to over painting by successive generations. This panel had also been dropped and early repairs had damaged the original surface and were poorly aligned. The outer edge of roundel was dry cleaned and losses filled with flugger and colour matched to original surface. The central bust was cleaned removing over painting and losses to plaster stabilised and areas of loss filled and also colour matched. A final coating of Renaissance wax was then applied to protect the newly exposed plaster surface.
